Project Overview:

We were appointed to upgrade an ageing entrance where the existing glass door set and failing floor spring unit were no longer fit for purpose. The client required a modern, efficient and compliant access solution that improved heat retention, integrated with existing building systems and provided long-term reliability.

Our team removed the old door system, infilled and concreted the floor voids created by the redundant floor spring, and prepared the entrance for new flooring to be installed. We worked in coordination with the fire alarm and access control contractors to ensure seamless interface compatibility. A new aluminium door set was then designed, supplied and installed, complete with an automated operator fully compliant with DDA accessibility standards.

All works were completed over a single weekend, ensuring zero disruption to the client’s Monday operations.

Installation & Coordination

The project began with a detailed assessment of structural fixings, access control requirements and fire alarm interface points. Once confirmed, the existing doors and floor spring were removed, with the floor voids concreted and levelled to prepare for new coverings.

Throughout the installation, our team coordinated closely with both the fire alarm and access control specialists to guarantee a smooth integration with the new automated system.

The new aluminium door set was installed with precision, ensuring optimal operator performance, correct alignment, and compliance with all relevant safety and accessibility standards. Weekend delivery allowed works to be completed without disruption to daily operations, and the entrance was fully ready for the client’s team by Monday morning.

Completion

The installation was completed within the agreed weekend timeframe. Commissioning sheets, operational guidance and all safety confirmations were provided at handover.

With the client present, we demonstrated the full operation of the door automation system, including interface triggers, safety sensors and manual override functions.

Outcome

By modernising the entrance with a reliable, DDA-compliant automatic door system, we delivered a more efficient, secure and user-friendly access point for the building. Staff immediately reported noticeable improvements in heat retention and comfort, reflecting the enhanced thermal performance of the new door set.

This upgrade provides the client with a durable, integrated and future-proof solution designed to support high-traffic use while reducing energy loss and maintenance demands.
